Invensys’
Wonderware Business Unit Announces Release of DAServer for
Modbus® Serial Devices First Serial Communications Protocol
DAServer Built with ArchestrA® DAS Toolkit
LAKE
FOREST, Calif., Oct. 9, 2003 – Wonderware, a business
unit of Invensys Systems, Inc., today announced the release
of a new DAServer (DataAccessServer) based on the Modbus®
serial protocol. The Wonderware DAServer for Modbus Serial
Devices is the first serial communications interface to be
built with Invensys’ ArchestrA DAS Toolkit. All previously
released DAServers have supported Ethernet-based protocols.
DAServers
are Wonderware’s next-generation I/O servers built on
ArchestrA technology, which offer enhanced communication diagnostics
and performance. Wonderware DAServers are designed to provide
simultaneous connectivity between plant-floor devices and
client applications based on Wonderware SuiteLink, DDE and
OPC® protocols, as well as the Modbus Serial protocol
with this latest release.
“The
DAServer for Modbus Serial Devices is distinct from all of
the preceding DAServers produced by Wonderware because it
is the first to support a serial protocol,” said Tim
Black, device integration manager at Wonderware. “The
Modbus protocol is the first serial protocol we chose to support
because it is one of most widely accepted de facto standards
today.”
The
ArchestrA DAS toolkit used to create the new Modbus DAServer
is designed to make building DAServers easier through the
open ArchestrA software architecture. Using this toolkit,
Wonderware, other Invensys companies and third parties are
building DAServers, which are next-generation plant communications
interfaces built on ArchestrA technology.
The
Wonderware DAServer for Modbus Serial Devices was specifically
tested with the Quantum, TSX Momentum and Modicon® Micro
controllers.
