Invensys
and Stratus Technologies to Offer High-Availability Option
for Systems Using ArchestrA® Technology
LAKE
FOREST, Calif., Oct. 23, 2003 -- Invensys and Stratus Technologies
today announced that the Invensys line of ArchestrA supervisory
and plant intelligence software platforms with Wonderware
software is now supported on Stratus® ftServer® fault-tolerant
systems. This marketing and sales collaboration comes as part
of an independent application software provider (IASP) agreement
that Invensys has signed with Stratus.
“Because
our customers rely on Wonderware software for a broad range
of industrial application solutions -- from supervisory control
to plant intelligence -- they need high-productivity software
with optimum system availability at a number of price points,”
said Steve Lewarne, vice president of product marketing for
the Wonderware and ArchestrA business units.
“With
the addition of the Stratus continuous computing option to
Wonderware’s latest products built on ArchestrA technology,
customers have even more options for supporting some of the
most demanding applications in the market today.”
The
Stratus ftServer family is a full line of Intel® processor-based
servers designed expressly for critical processes and operations
where business continuity, continuous information access and
application availability are essential. Stratus servers offer
better than 99.999 percent uptime performance on both the
hardware platform and operating system, which includes either
Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 or Windows 2000.
To
keep operations online, ftServer systems address the primary
causes of system downtime and data loss including single points
of failure, hardware failover and recovery time, faulty device
drivers, human error, component and software revision incompatibilities.
The inherent reliability of the hardware’s fault-tolerant
design, coupled with unique software-availability features
and integrated ActiveService™ fault detection and isolation
technology, aggressively position Stratus against competitors'
solutions where reliability and operational simplicity are
important.
“As
systems integration takes hold within departments, between
departments, and throughout the plant, there is a complementary
effect,” said Jindrich Liska, Stratus director for manufacturing
systems. “The availability of applications and the reliability
of the IT support infrastructure increase exponentially in
importance. Both Invensys and Stratus are very cognizant of
their responsibility to help customers achieve productivity
and financial goals, and meet regulatory obligations within
their operations with reliable, robust, easy-to-deploy solutions.”
Invensys’
Wonderware software including the Industrial Application Server,
which is built on the ArchestrA architecture, InTouch human-machine
interface (HMI) software, and the IndustrialSQL Server plant
historian, have been tested and validated on the Stratus ftServer
3300 series. The supervisory control systems of these critical
production processes require continuous availability. To date,
customers with Stratus ftServer 3300 systems have run their
applications with no unplanned downtime caused by the server
or operating system since this model was launched in March
2003. This entry-level server is the company’s most
successful new product to date in terms of quality and user
demand.
Only
Stratus discloses actual recorded “availability”
levels for its products based on reported service incidents
from the installed base. The ftServer Uptime Meter(SM) is
updated daily and can be viewed on the Stratus website at
www.stratus.com/uptime/ftserver.htm. The data is based on
operating experience of both the hardware and Microsoft Windows
2000 operating system over the past six months.
